File Attender for Domino Servers
Overview
Network and User Hard Drive Archiving for Domino Servers
File Attender is a Lotus Notes-based file and IM management product
that manages the files on a user's hard drive or on a Domino server,
which includes files on any random access storage that the user or
server can address (File server, WORM, SAN, NAS, Jukebox, etc.).
File Attender provides
administrators the ability to centralize files and, when archiving from
a user hard drive, perform back-ups on a scheduled basis. File Attender
was designed to be as non-invasive as possible. It is a platform
independent, Domino-based product that does not require any additional
hardware or software.
Using File Attender, you can locate files within
specified locations using the file age, name and/or size and perform one
of several actions on files on the network or local PC's:
-
Collecting data on what files and types exist
-
Renaming files
-
Copy or move files to another location for review
-
Delete files that could be damaging to your
environment
Administrators will also have the ability to specify the
files, locations, actions and users that are to be processed. File
Attender must be installed on every mail server that has at least one
user that requires processing.
Benefits
File Attender can archive and manage:
- Files on User Hard Drives
- Files on Domino Servers
- Domino IM Logs
- Files on any Random Access Storage
Reduce your exposure
Daily, it seems, we hear of lawsuits filed due to inappropriate or illegal email
content. Often, the emails in question have attachments that contain important information. Once
a user has saved an attachment, you may not be aware of its existence until the user’s computer is
searched and these important files are found. Imagine the things that users might be saving.
Everything from offensive/pornographic files, to files that contain ‘for your eyes only’ kind of
corporate information that should never be seen by anyone outside of the company. We hear news
articles often relating to consumer private data such as credit card information being found
on user pc's. With File Attender, a company can reduce legal liabilities by enforcing policies
that properly manage these files.
Return on investment
The return on investment for File Attender is simple; manage the files that
exist on a user’s hard drive! Prevent corporate information from falling into the wrong hands.
Prevent an employee from suing the company because of being offended by an off-color file.
Features
- Archive files and instant messages to
a centralized location while leaving behind a shortcut to
locate/open the archived file
- Archive IM logs from Lotus Sametime, Google Talk, Yahoo
Messenger, and AIM
- Collect a list of the files that exist
- Copy the files to another location (e.g. file server)
- Delete unnecessary files
- Move the files to another location (e.g. file server)
- Rename existing files
- Manage files based on content (ex. keywords) when used in
conjunction with Discovery Attender for Notes
In the example above, any file that has a .doc or .ppt extension, was last modified more
than 90 days ago and exists on the hard drive for any user, will be archived to the ‘f:’ drive.
You can specify files by their age, location, name and size. This allows administrators to
create very granular rules for the entire set of users or for a specific subset of users.
